October begins with a destiny link between Mars and the North Node, which are both in Scorpio: since Scorpio represents change from our deepest desires, this urges us to move and change direction, to something that is more aligned with our future goals versus our past. This dynamic says let go of the past and move on.
Also, the Moon in Aries opposes both Mercury and Saturn in Libra. This further gives us the impetus to go our own way (Aries Moon), but to consider our responsibilities to others (Saturn Libra) and communicate them clearly and fairly (Mercury Libra). This way we can move on with a clear conscience.
On October 3rd, Venus moves from expressive Leo into discerning Virgo, a place where Venus is not all that happy. Venus opposes Neptune in Pisces, which increases our sensitivity and our propensity to be misled in relationships. Luckily, with Venus in Virgo, we are more apt to be over-focused on details, and we can be more discriminating. However, this can make us over-critical and not able to appreciate the beauty that is being mirrored to us.
Jupiter in Gemini begins its retrograde period on October 4, lasting up until January 2013! When planets are retrograde, it is a perfect time to be more introspective, reviewing the themes associated with the planet-sign combination. With a retrograde Jupiter in Gemini, it is a better time to have conversations with your inner self versus the world-at-large. Get to know all the facets of you and seek information about your self, your beliefs, and where you want to expand in your life.
Two days later, communication planet Mercury moves from Libra into Scorpio, followed closely by taskmaster planet Saturn. This conjunction of Mercury and Saturn with the switch into Scorpio, allows for rather intense, focused and serious communication and thinking processes. We are ready to get to the root of matters and hone in on what is most real and important. This can also benefit our career path as we seek to let go of any dead wood and improve our skills.
On October 8, Mars moves into Sagittarius and squares Neptune in Pisces. Beware of wishful thinking and being overly blind to your accomplishments. Connect to your deepest beliefs that bubble up from your subconscious and redefine your goals and what you are putting your energy into. Sagittarius is non-committal and Pisces is spacey: this is a good time to just let your imagination ride rather than head off in hot pursuit of your latest fancy.
Venus trines Pluto on October 9, and Mercury is sextile both Venus and Pluto the next day. Love can reach a deeper and more intense level, without the usual drama or stress. Communications go smoothly and can allow for deeper connections and intimations within our relationships. This is also a great time for any healing work or for the healing of relationships in general.
On October 15 there is a New Moon in Libra. This New Moon carries the energy of “balance” and is a good time to start new projects or pursuits that support Libran themes: fairness, harmony, peace, diplomacy, and compromise. Anything that beautifies your life and your relationships with others is supported now.
Jupiter and Venus square off on October 17. Watch overdoing any spending, or overindulgences of any kind. With Jupiter retrograde, it is a better time to take a look at what you are spending your time and money on, and what you really value in life. Do you really need that new outfit? Are you putting your energy into too many directions at once? Now is the time to take a critical eye to any “over” in your life.
The Sun shifts into Scorpio on October 23, moving us into the mid-point of the fall season. This is the perfect time to look within and see what needs to be transformed or let go of. In Shamanic Astrology, this is the time of Snake Medicine, and encourages healing, rooting out anything that is dead, and tuning into the deeper vibrations in the psyche. This is all in preparation for our next cycle of growth.
Saturn conjuncts the Sun two days later, and gives us the serious focus to accomplish and get to task on any revelations from the Sun moving into Scorpio. This is the time to get real and put your energy into only that which matters. Expression and vitality may feel restricted now, but Saturn is just doing his job of spurning us to be responsible, and to check our egos at the door.
On October 28 Jupiter opposes Mars, giving us a bit of a restless feeling. Which direction to go in? This is a better time to take baby steps than giant leaps. Jupiter retrograde is asking that you consider before you head off on your next great adventure.
Just before Halloween, there is a Full Moon in Taurus. What may become clear is what needs to change and what needs to stay the same. This may cause some tension in relationships so be aware of any projections you are making.
Mercury and Venus both switch signs on October 29: Mercury into Sagittarius and Venus into Libra. Mercury and Venus continue to sextile each other and have up to now encouraged friendly relations and communications. However, Mercury is now a bit more vague and harder to reach or pin down (Sagittarius) while Venus is strongly focused on creating harmony and peace in relationships (Libra). This nice dance is starting to fade.
The month ends with the Sun sextile Pluto. This is the perfect time to make any self-improvements, especially to old life structures and psychic detritus. This will help you shine brighter and express your true clear nature.
