Rob Warren

Susanne Schmidt

Meet Our Co-Founders

Rob and Susanne are both retired psychotherapists, who now focus mostly on grief counselling, relationship counselling and group dynamics. As certified Relationship Counsellors, they work with a variety of relationships: marriage/partners, parents and adult children, as well as relationships in the workplace. In their work with couples, they practice an “emotionally focused therapy” (EFT) approach. This therapeutic, process allows partners to work through their own issues while learning how to listen to one another, and to respond, rather than react. Within this process couples learn to set realistic relationship goals.

Rob and Susanne promote a holistic approach to living by teaching classes on life skills, with a special emphasis on emotional wellbeing. They also co-facilitate classes on developing intuition skills for everyday life. These classes are both fun, and educational, allowing for unlimited growth for everyone.

As co-founders of the Canadian Academy of Therapeutic Arts, Rob and Susanne have created a safe and nurturing home away from home, that has become a major hub in the holistic and spiritual community within York Region.

Michelle Sher

Registered Psychotherapist

At times our way of being is inconsistent with our goals and desires. You may need help understanding your current thoughts and behaviour patterns.

Relationships can be tough……Life can be challenging…..Every aspect of our lives is based on relationship. Your relationship with your partner, your friends and colleagues, your parents, your kids, and at the centre of it all is your relationship with yourself. These relationships affect everything in our lives; how we work, how we exercise, how we eat, the choices we make and how we interact with others.

Everybody and every relationship can use the support and guidance of someone who will not judge, but will help you to find insight, gain greater clarity, and work with you to discover the perspective and tools to move forward and take charge of your life. I work respectfully and compassionately with you, adapting an intuitive approach towards healing that acknowledges the uniqueness in each individual.

Every relationship, situation and circumstances surrounding them are different and there are many ways to achieve peace of mind. Although I apply various recognized techniques during the discovery process, sessions are client centred and the approach chosen is not picked from textbook formulas. Through engagement the ideas and appropriate modalities present themselves. I have training and experience with CBT, DBT, Mindfulness, RODBT, Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Motivational Interviewing, Emotionally Focused Therapy for Couples and Somatic Experiencing; I am also a certified Mindful Eating Practitioner and can work with you to regain a healthy relationship with food and your body.

People are not inherently broken and you do not need to be fixed. As a therapist it is my role to be fully present with you at all times, to help you gain clarity, to support and assist you in taking the necessary steps in moving forward. You come to me with the hope that things can be different, I then take that glimmer of hope and walk into each session with the wholehearted belief that transformation is possible.

“I truly believe that if you begin to understand what you are without trying to change it, then what you are undergoes transformation.”
- Jiddu Krishnamurti
